NSBA's mission
provides music education and performance opportunites for children
which are unique today. Through its provision of Performance Festivals
in the regions, NSBA offers a music education experience of the
highest quality to young brass, wind and percussion players of
all ability levels. NSBA Festivals and Courses form bridges between
the studyof an instrument in different school contexts and the
dedicated shared performance focus of a music education experience
which meets convincingly the musical chellenges of large-scale
public performance. It offers all such children, irrespective
of school, background or location, equal access to exciting, large-scale
band performance experiences of the highest quality and musical
standards, access to a new repertoire and music of our time under
the direction and guilding influence of expert directors and conductors.
The objectives
of NSBA Festivals are to provide special music education and performance
opportunites for araound 200 children in each region. Musical
repertoire selected for the Course or Festival is wholly contemporary
and one which is chosen by NSBA to reflect some of the very best
of a wide stylistic range of compositional expressions for the
medium of youth wind and brass bands. Many seperate school bands,
youth bands and individual students join forces to create a large
and unique NSBA regional massed band for the Course and Festival.
The organisational and musical challenges are equally great and
NSBA is proud to maintain its open access policy.
The regional
public concert performances which result from NSBA Festivals further
provide very significant events in the cultural life of the communities
in which the NSBA work and also create new and large audiences
for contempary music and youth music-making
